Colonel, Donald R. Lewison age 84 of Tega Cay, South Carolina died on August 17, 2021.
He was born September 6, 1936 in Viroqua, Wisconsin. He was the son of Melvyn “Jake” and Fern Lewison of Viroqua, WI both deceased. He was a member of the Lake Wylie Lutheran Church. A 1959 Graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He played baseball and basketball at UWM. He still holds the season high batting average record of .489 established in 1957. He was retired from the US Army Reserves with 24 years of service. Served in the 84th Division (Tng) in Milwaukee, WI and with the 70th Division (Tng) in Livonia, Michigan. His first job was with Line Material Company in South Milwaukee, WI. Began his career in finance at American Motors Parts Plant in Milwaukee. He was the Plant Controller when Chrysler purchased them in 1987. He retired from Chrysler in 1991 after receiving a liver transplant in April of 1991. He lived in Louisville, KY from 1996 to 2010. He then moved to South Carolina in May of 2010 to be near their youngest daughter Sheri. He is survived by Gladys his wife of 60 years. Also survived by daughter Lisa and husband James Murray and grandsons Ryan, Austin, and Dylan in the Chicago area. Their son Scott and his wife Margarita and their children Brenden and Kayleigh in the Milwaukee area, and Sheri and her husband Daniel Markowski and daughters Morgan and Emily of Tega Cay, SC. Also survived by his older brother Mel Lewison and wife Karen of St. George, Utah. His other brother Vern passed away in 2008 in Friendswood, Texas.
A private military memorial service will take place at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina on Monday December 20, 2021 at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to the “Gift of Life” transplant foundation, in memory of Donald Lewison.
