Dr. Donald Earl Neal, 80 of Rock Hill, went to heaven on Sunday, May 12, 2013. He was born in Rock Hill, SC on August 26, 1932 to W. Y. "Buck" and Neoma Neal. Don graduated from Rock Hill High School, Mars Hill College, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his Doctorate of Ministry from Mid-Atlantic Bible College. He was married to Nelle Browne Neal on December 27, 1978. Dr. Neal served churches in SC, NC, and Virginia as Minister of Education, Music and Youth. He led youth group choirs at 3 different churches. The 375 member choir from Fayetteville, NC sang at Oktober Fest in Germany and for the Pope in Rome. The 125 member choir at Sylvia Circle Baptist Church in Rock Hill was called One Way Singers and sang in Washington DC at the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies. Following singing on the steps of the Capital building Don was presented with a US flag that had flown over the Capital. Don continued to serve his community following retirement from church work. He served as a Lt. Col. in the Civil Air Patrol and as Chaplain with the York County Sheriff's Dept. He also helped to establish Red Path Church for the Catawba Indians. Don was also known as a cook. He got his cooking talent from his dad who owned and operated Buck's Grill. He served as the cook for several mission trips and Wednesday night suppers at church. He was most known for his chocolate pie and biscuits. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children: Carol Neal of Andrews, SC, Mark Neal (Greta) and Michael Neal (Angie) of Rock Hill, SC, and Morgan Neal Spitzer (Andy) of Camden, SC; his grandchildren: Ashley, Mikayla, Maggie, Makenzie, and Drew; and great grandchild: Drayke. Don was a loving father, devoted husband, and compassionate friend who had a great sense of humor and would go out of his way to help others and let them know that God loved them. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May, 15, 2013 at 2:00pm in the Catawba Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Richardson, Rev. Bob Lindsay, Rev. Ralph Riley, and Chief Steve Silverheels officiating. Interment will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery. The family will receive frieends from 6-8pm Tuesday at the Catawba Baptist Church.
