Donna K. Chase of Hammond, NY passed away December 24, 2022, in South Carolina at the age of 95.
Donna was born in Salisbury Center, NY and graduated from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY. She moved to Hammond in 1948 to teach music at the Old Hammond High School. Eventually, she went on to teach vocal music and Kindergarten at the Hammond Central School until her retirement.
For many years, Donna directed the choir at Hammond Presbyterian Church and occasionally served as the church's organist, playing for church services, weddings, funerals, and other events. She remained an active member of the church the rest of her life. Donna met her future husband, Allen Chase, in the church as he was a member of the choir. They married in 1950. After Allen suffered a devastating and disabling stroke at the age of 49, she served as a dedicated caregiver to him until he passed at the age of 80.
Donna is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Bernhardt (Keith), Nancy Chase, and Laurie Loomer (Glenn); a brother, John Kingsley (Mary); and 2 grandsons Allen Bernhardt and Chase Loomer. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Katie Speno, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service has yet to be planned and will most likely be held in the warmer months of 2023
