Doris Barbara Piegols Rusk Nichols, 92 died on February 28 on hers and Henry’s 63rd Anniversary. They are celebrating in heaven!!
She was born in Midland Michigan and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Heard Nichols and her much loved son-in-law, Gary Smith. She leaves behind 2 wonderful children, her daughter, Pam Nichols Smith (Gary), and her son, Jay Nichols (Cindy) and her grandchildren, Brian, Nicole and Regan.
She graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952 and was an Art Teacher and homemaker. Her favorite form of art was watercolor painting which she continued throughout her lifetime.
After she married Henry they made their home and raised their children in Savannah Ga where they attended and served many years at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope. After raising her children she returned to playing golf. She was a well known Watercolor artist in Savannah and captured many paintings of the beaches at Tybee and Anna Maria Florida. She was an active member of the Savannah Art Association.
Many many thanks to Wellmore of Tega Cay, SC and their wonderful staff for the excellent care they gave Dorie the last two years. She enjoyed a happy life under their care! And also thanks to Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care. They were very attentive to Dorie’s needs over the last few months.
The funeral will be held on March 19 at 10:00am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 2 St. Thomas Avenue, Isle of Hope, GA 31406. The service will be held in the church sanctuary followed by interment in the Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends and family in the fellowship hall after the burial.
