Rock Hill - The family of Douglas Monroe McSwain wish to inform you of his passing. Doug went to his eternal rest on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Doug was born on July 18, 1942, the second child of the late Cullen and Ruby McSwain. When he was 23 years old, he married the love of his life, Lynda. Together they build a wonderful life and raised two sons, Chris and Bill.
Doug had a long and successful career as an Electrical Superintendent with the City of Rock Hill and as an Electrical Engineer with Southeastern Consulting Engineers, from which he retired in 2012.
After his retirement, he devoted himself to his grandchildren – never missing a recital, track meet or celebration. He enjoyed picking his grandchildren up from school and enjoyed weekend sleepovers.
Doug was an outgoing and adventurous person. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new sights with his family by his side. He never met a stranger and he never shied away from a spirited debate. He had a passion for bluegrass music and never passed on an opportunity to do “a little picking and grinning.”
Doug’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and wonderful memories of hikes and camping trips, family vacations, bike rides, singing bluegrass and pancake breakfasts with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lynda McSwain; his sons Christopher Douglas McSwain (Erin), and William David McSwain (Dee); his beloved grandchildren, Gavin Richard McSwain, Adelaide Grace “Addie” McSwain, and Landon Gamble McSwain; his sister Barbara Harris; many nieces and nephews; and his walking partner Goldie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Warren Joseph McSwain; as well as his honorary grandson, Ethan Ryan Richardson.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home.
In accordance with Doug’s wishes, the family will host a celebration of life on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 6:00 pm at his home, 2206 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Memorials can be made to the Heart Association.
