Duane David Emery,62, died April 5, 2023 of a cardiovascular event.
He was born in Rapid City, SD to his loving parents, Clarence & Betty Jean Emery.
He served more than 6 years, with honors, in the U.S. Navy, 1st Class Petty Officer, on board the USS Henry Clay.
With over 15 years as an electrical contractor in South Florida, he then went on to be a licensed Professional
Engineer in both Florida and North Carolina. While working tirelessly in the electric industry he helped to bring
power back on to millions of customers. Duane was loved by everyone he knew and by all the people who worked for him.
He had a way of making people feel uplifted, happier, and he brought people up to a higher level both professionally
by mentorship and with his kindness and generosity. He was an avid sports enthusiast, both as a contender and observer.
He excelled at baseball, football, track, golf, wrestling, basketball, and tennis. He is missed by his loving wife and
he is missed by all who knew him.
Duane is also a hero, during a rafting trip down a river, (Riverbend Park, Jupiter, FL) he saved someone’s life. His father-in-law, Katharine’s dad: James Robinson, when his wife, Helen Robinson fell into the cold water. Duane jumped in and pulled her out from underneath a capsized boat and saved her life.
He is predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Betty Jean Emery and by his brothers, Roger and Darryl. He is survived by his wife Katharine of more than 23 years. Daughters: Amber Emery-Miller and Brittany Emery, Son: John Emery, grandchildren,
nephews, nieces, and friends. The family would like to express our thanks to family & friends who have shown their
love and support during this difficult time.
The funeral service will be provided by Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Place Dr., Fort Mill, SC 29708 on Monday,
April 10, 2023 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. On the following day, April 11, 2023, Duane will be laid to rest at Rock Hill
Memorial Gardens.
