Edgemoor, SC - Mrs. Edith Claire Bergenn Gann, 93, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at her home.
A Memorial Mass will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bird Street Rock Hill and a reception to follow immediately after in the Family Life Center.
A native of Montclair, N.J. Mrs. Gann was a daughter of the late Peter J. Bergenn and Helen Flynn Bergenn.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Joseph Gann, Jr. (Barbara); a daughter, Patricia C. Gann; and two grandchildren, Joseph Michael Gann and David Matthew Gann. She was the widow of Ralph Joseph Gann, Sr.
In 1943 Edith was featured in the newspaper with a picture of Edith and her Mother and Grandmother. All three worked at The Thomas Edison plant during the war. The only Three Generations of women all working together in the same plant for the War effort.
She was born and raised in New Jersey and lived there for many years before moving south to be closer to her son and his family, and to escape the cold northeast winters.
Edith was an integral part of Flowers by Patricia, her daughter's flower shop in New Jersey, where she was in charge of Customer Service, as well as being a designer. She enjoyed talking with the customers. She also enjoyed working with the flowers. Her favorite flower was Gardenias.
After moving to South Carolina, she accompanied her daughter to floral design programs for Garden Clubs around the State.
Edith was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church. While conditions permitted, she regularly participated in Perpetual Adoration.
Edith was an active member of Toastmasters International. Participating in the local Rock Hill Club. She also was active in the South Carolina District, earning her the District Governors Award of Appreciation for Outstanding Service. She was most proud when she received a sash designating her as "DISTRICT MOM" and wore it to District Conferences. She also travelled around the South East with her daughter to many Toastmaster's Conferences.
Her pastimes included jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, word search and she was a voracious reader.
