Edward Philip Adkins

YORK - Edward Philip Adkins, 87, of 865 Adkins Road, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 1184 N. Shiloh Road, York, S.C. with the Rev. Thomas McPhail and Neill McKay officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

A native of York, S.C., Mr. Adkins was a son of the late James Roy Adkins and Pauline Sewell Adkins. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his vegetables with family and friends. His passion was restoring antique tractors in his retirement years. He passed on his love of hunting and fishing to his grandsons. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his great-granddaughter, Lola Jane riding her on his gator and passing his love of the outdoors to the next generation.

Surviving are his wife, Naomi Ogburn Adkins; a daughter, Beverly Adkins Meares (Mark); five brothers, James Reid Adkins (Bonnie), Steven Adkins, John Adkins (Susan), Jack Adkins, (Betty) and Greg Adkins (Marguerite); a sister, Dorothy Mae McKnight; two grandsons, Bryan Meares (Shelley) and Matt Meares and a great-granddaughter, Lola Jane Meares. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Dean Adkins.
