Effie Stroud Pate

Mrs. Effie Stroud Pate, 94, of 4175 Edgeland Road passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill. A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Pate was born on June 20, 1916, a daughter of the late Redic and Lillie Stroud. She was retired from Manetta Mills where she worked in the cloth room. Mrs. Pate was an 80 year member of Lando Baptist Church. During that time she sang in the church choir and was an active member of her Sunday School class. The most important things in her life were God and family, and she loved to laugh. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her beloved husband Claude H. Pate; five brothers: Charlie, Julius, Frank, Cleveland, Oscar, and R.L. Stroud; and one sister, Estelle Herring. Surviving are two daughters: Cynthia Morgan and husband Dennis of Columbia, SC, Clara Baker and husband Gene of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren: David Morgan, Richard Morgan, Leslie Shelton, Jennifer Munn, Matt Baker; six great-grandchildren: Reese Bowser, Amber Shelton, Trent Shelton, Sydney Munn, Lauren Munn, Sarah Baker; and many loving nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Pate will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Lando Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Harrison and Rev. Gene Baker officiating. Interment will follow the service in Lando Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8pm at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Pate to Lando Baptist Church, 3737 Lando Drive, Lando, SC 29724. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to those who lovingly cared for Mrs. Pate during the last years of her life: Christy Harris, Mary Jo Canupp, staff of Spring Arbor, and staff of Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
