Eleanor Elizabeth Whitmire

Eleanor Elizabeth "Granny" Smith Whitmire, 87, of 1733 Grand Circle, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville. A native of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Whitmire was born January 27, 1922 a daughter of the late John and Lillian Conn Smith. She was a homemaker and member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Whitmire was preceded in death by her husband Earl T. Whitmire and a son Donald B. Whitmire. Surviving are two sons Gene Whitmire of Raleigh, NC and R. Keith Whitmire of Greenville, SC; one brother Charles Franklin Smith of Baltimore, MD; three sisters Marian Smith of Baltimore, MD, Lorainne Almerigi of Frederick, MD, and Lucille Reeder of Baltimore, MD; also eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Whitmire will be held Wednesday at 3:00pm in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Tucker officiating.
