Elizabeth Williams King

December 28, 1943 – July 3, 2022

Anne King was born Elizabeth Anne Boone on December 28, 1943, to the late William Augustus and Gladys Stone Boone in Holland, VA. She departed this life on July 3, 2022. Anne was the second oldest of seven children and grew up in a farming family where the value of hard work and a strong work ethic were instilled in her. She fondly remembered her days of working with her family on her dad’s farm during the planting, growing and the harvesting seasons. Because of this, she missed school several days a week. However, this did not negatively impact her academic performance in school. Anne went on to graduate at the top of her class as valedictorian at what was then known as Nansemond County Training School. She was an active participant in various school clubs and played on the girls’ varsity basketball team during the winter months. After graduating from high school, Anne furthered her education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Norfolk State College in Norfolk, Virginia.

After graduating college, Anne started working as a math teacher in the Norfolk City Public School system, with most of her years spent at Norview High School. Her favorite classes to teach were Algebra and Geometry, though she enjoyed her General Math classes as well. Anne loved her students and they connected with her as well. They often came back to visit her after graduating and her students would stop to speak to her anytime they saw her in public. Anne dedicated 37 years to teaching and retired in 2003.

Anne’s two daughters, Kim and Kelley, were the light of her life and she often referred to them as “her girls.” She had three grandchildren who she also adored and relocated to Rock Hill, SC to be near them. Anne loved to spend the weekends with her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with them as well.

Anne had many proud moments in her life but in 2003 she was able to fulfill her goal of becoming a full-time servant in the pioneer work. Anne loved speaking with her neighbors about the promises found in the Bible and she loved sharing her favorite scripture, Psalms 83:18 where she learned God’s name. Many friends loved their service days with Anne, as they rode around in the van enjoying the upbuilding conversations. She was a longtime servant of Jehovah and was baptized in January 1979. When Anne died, she had been a faithful servant of Jehovah for 43 years.

Anne was a loving, giving person who dedicated herself to helping people. She was kind and generous to her friends in need and she instilled this giving spirit in her children. She often spent time tutoring kids in the congregation to help improve their math scores. While she was not happy with the mobility limitations resulting from her stroke, Anne always had an upbeat, positive attitude. During her last year of therapy and transport, many of her caregivers grew fond of her, even visiting her in the hospital and offering their condolences.

Anne will be missed dearly but we share in her belief in the resurrection and look forward to seeing her again. Anne was predeceased by her parents, William Augustus and Gladys Stone Boone; sisters, Marie Boone, Virginia Boone Littlejohn, Geraldine Boone Odom and her brother Jarvis McCray Boone. She leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Darrell King; daughters; Kim Williams and Kelley Cato (Charles); sisters; Olivia Boone Brown and Stephanie Boone Odom (Hurley); stepchildren; Darrell King II, Shanekqua King and Jon King; grandchildren; Donovan Perryman, Mason Cato and Sydney Cato; a brother-in-law, James Littlejohn, a sister-in-law, Nelva Boone, an aunt, Barbara Boone and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who are considered family.
