Elizabeth "Betty" Huckle Rader passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at her residence. A native of Reed City, Michigan, Betty was born March 30, 1920, and in 1922, moved to Rock Hill with her parents, the late Arthur Wycliffe and Inis Gillis Huckle. Betty graduated from Winthrop Training School in 1937, Duke University in 1941 and received her Master's Degree in Modern Languages from the University of Kentucky in 1942. In 1950, she moved to Concord, NC where she worked for The Concord Tribune until 1980, when she retired as President. In 1982, she married William "Bill" Rader and moved to Mooresville, NC. After Bill's death, she returned to Rock Hill where she has lived since 1988. Betty enjoyed being reunited with her friends in Rock Hill, where she devoted her time to numerous activities and organizations. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sara Huckle Murdaugh, and her niece, Sally Murdaugh. Surviving are her nieces, Anne Wycliffe Murdaugh of Denver, CO, and Beth Murdaugh of Monument, CO; four step-children, Frank Rader of Mooresville, NC, Charles Rader of Cornelius, NC, Susan Poole of Greensboro, NC, and Frances Lena of Dallas, TX; her great nephews and great nieces, Ben and Lianna Holston, and Dane and Sara Snyder; her step grand-children, Ellie Rader, John and David Rader, and Charles, Robert and Mary Frances Lena; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Vick Murdaugh and his wife, Betty, of Columbia, SC. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held Friday, August 13 at 2:00pm at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Jim Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Endowment Fund, 421 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Habitat for Humanity, P.O.
