Ellen Armstrong Furr, 92, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 at Emory University Hospital Hospice Unit in Atlanta, Ga. She was born on September 22, 1924 to Annie Belle Davis Armstrong and Richard E. Armstrong in Rock Hill, S.C. Born and raised in York County, Ms.Furr was educated in the Rock Hill Schools. Ms. Furr, a nurse and nurturer to many was a graduate of Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg, S.C in 1946. She furthered her nursing education at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga. During her years of practice, Ms. Furr worked at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in the Polio Ward, the Conover Medical Clinic, Catawba General Hospital in Newton. N.C.,as assistant head nurse for OB/GYN at Catawba Memorial Hospital, as unit coordinator of Surgical Floors and later as patient services coordinator at Glen R. Frye Memorial Hospital in Hickory, N.C. Although Ms.Furr retired as Head Nurse for Mental Health at Frye Memorial Hospital in 1991 she remained a nurse at heart. Ms. Furr was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton NC. Ms. Furr is survived by sons, Richard (Celeste) Furr of Marietta, Ga. and Keith Furr of Townville, S.C.
