Sunday morning, August 4th God claimed another angel, Eugene McLean Robbins son of the late Eugene and Mary Robbins. He was born 11/16/1942 in Laurinburg, NC and then was raised in Edgemoor, SC where he graduated from Lewisville High School and then Wingate University. He was also a member of several service organizations such as the Jaycees, the Masonic Lodge and The Eastern Star. He was also a dedicated member of Edgemoor ARP Church and community where he served as the chair of the Deacons, the congregational chair as well as being an Elder. He co-owned and operated his family business, Modern Exterminating, that he has kept going til the day he died.
He grew up with two wonderful brothers that he ran around the country with, his twin Delaine and then his little brother Harry Robbins. The Robbins boys were well known all over the county for their manners as well as their shenanigans. They were country boys born and bred. Eugene was very proud of his work and career along side of his twin Delaine and after Harry retired from years in education he became his full time partner in the business. Every little old lady around that needs her house treated knew and loved these wonderful men.
He lived his life full of joy in his family, friends and community. He had many that called him friend and was respected by one and all. He realized all of the joy of life on the day he met one dark haired beauty, Linda Hamilton and married her August 22 fifty six years ago. They lived and worked in Rock Hill where they began their family together starting with their daughter, Cheryl Burnett , followed closely by Michael and then later on a surprise package arrived...Susan Paige. Many years were spent in Rock Hill but then we moved to Edgemoor where he really found his peace and his forever home.
Eugene was a dedicated public servant. He served in the Jaycees and Masonic lodge as a young man after being in the Demolay. He then found the love that he had for The Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Patron many times and also held a district position as well. He participated in every spaghetti dinner sale and would do anything he could to help his community. As he grew older he gained the joy of seeing his children grow into adults and begin families of their own. After giving his blessing of the marriage of his son Michael to Lisa Tate he was able to walk his daughter Cheryl down the aisle to marry John Burnett (deceased) and Susan to her love Robert Hartwig.
This was an accomplishment but then he realized that having an empty nest didn't mean no more fun being Santa at Christmas to his children but now he could do that with his grandchildren and then send them home. Everything goes with Mamaw Lynda and GrandDaddy Eugene. He was blessed by Michael Eugene Jr, followed by Jake and Justin (Michael and Lisa) and then came all the little girls in his life. Amber with her long beautiful auburn hair, then Ashleigh and finally Madison with their amazing blue eyes (Susan). Things didn't stop there as Michael, Jr married and brought him 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Matthew, Zac and Benji. A full life of grandchildren to spoil and to pull around the yard with the tractor during times of snow.
Eugene lived his life at full speed as he worked and played as hard as he could. He would go and go until he couldn't go any more. He always seemed to have tons of energy and gave his all to every single endeavor he took on. He loved life and loved his family and all the many people that he came into contact with every day. What do you call a man that has a love for life, God, service to community and to anyone within that needed his help...Eugene McLain Robbins, an honest man.
