Evelyn Robbins Mcswain

November 19, 1940 — December 14, 2011

Rock Hill - Mrs. Evelyn Robbins McSwain, 71, of 1466 George Dunn Road, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at her home.

Funeral services will be Noon Saturday, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Nguyen and Dr. Dennis Willoughby officiating. Burial will be in Rock Hill Memorial Garden.

A native of Rock Hill, Evelyn was the daughter of Oscar Lee and Dora Munn Wyles.

All of the children will tell you that aliens have abducted their momma. They tell the grand-kids that she is not the same woman that raised them. She used to be a mean grouchy mom and now she is a sweet lovely grandma saying that none of her grand-kids can do any wrong.

Evelyn was out at the cloths line hanging up clothes with those big curlers in her hair. She heard the school bus coming around the curve and everyone on the bus was talking and loud. When the bus stopped Evelyn was waiting when the bus doors opened. She got on the bus, with her hair full of curlers, and told everyone on the bus to sit down and be quiet. Everyone sat down and really didn't know what to think. She told everyone that she had better not ever hear that much noise coming from that bus again. All of the Robbins kids that were on the bus were thoroughly embarrassed. From that time on every day when the bus got to that curve, everyone would say, you all sit down and be quiet! We don't want that crazy woman with the curlers to get on the bus!

Freddie had gone fishing on a Sunday afternoon. He said that he had caught something and didn't have a clue what kind of fish or whatever he has caught. Evelyn told him he had caught the Devil for fishing on a Sunday!

Evelyn had gone to the mountains with Norma to Diane's. They went out on the lake on a Sunday with Amy, and Amy has a fishing rod and handed it to Evelyn for a second and at just that time the game warden came up and gave a $125.00 ticket for fishing without a license and on a Sunday.

David said he remembers when he was young before he started school; Evelyn would lay a blanket down under a tree in the yard and read a story book to him and Jerry.

Momma always said she had questions for David and Bathsheba, when she gets to heaven, David had better run before she catches you with him. Run David run!

Otis says that Evelyn has always been a loving sweet and caring wife. He does not believe any of the monstrous stories that the kids talk about and she's never been abducted by aliens. He can finally play solitaire on the computer in the open now!

Surviving are her husband, Otis Hubert McSwain, Jr.; four sons, Marty Robbins (Judy), David Robbins (Pam), Lee McSwain (Rhonda), and Jerry Robbins (Cherrl); four daughters, Sandy Friday (Joe), Norma Robbins, Lisa Robbins, and Mary Gunn (Shannon); one brother, Robert Wyles (Joyce); two sisters, Helen Yarger (Nelson), and Jo Bennett (Bobby); 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh N. Robbins and a brother, Freddie Wyles.
