Forrest Halcet "Red" Byrd, Jr., 71, of 2446 Wood Road, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Wilmington, Mr. Byrd was born April 8, 1940 a son of the late Forrest Halcet Byrd, Sr. and the late Vivian Black Byrd. He was the owner /operator of Red's Automotive in York and Rock Hill for 20 plus years and a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife Linda Brady Byrd; five children Tommy Byrd of Maine, Cindy Ray of Mississippi, Forrest H. Byrd, III of Winnsboro, Jesse Mabry of Ft. Mill and Sue Atkins of Rock Hill; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Byrd will be held at 6:00pm Wednesday in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Gary Welch officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
