Fred Allen Beachum passed away December 4th, 2014 of natural causes. He was born in Monroe, NC on October 26, 1930 to Luther and Audrey Beachum. He served at Fort Jackson as a corporal in the 3622 Ordinance Corp for the United States Army until 1955. Following his military service, he received an associate business degree from Burton Institute in 1958. He started a career in packaging at Old Dominion before joining Weyerhauser Corporation's corrugated packaging plant in Charlotte, NC where he ended his tenure as General Sales Manager. In 1974 he founded Westport Containers, Inc., an independent corrugated packaging sheet plant which he grew and operated until its sale in 2002. Following a successful career, he retired to enjoy his great love of golf, playing pool and spending time with family and friends. He was a respected and generous man to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Blake Carter Beachum; their two children, Eric Scott Beachum of Charlotte, NC; Daughter Carol Beachum Goodwin of Rock Hill, SC; her husband James Lee Goodwin; grandson, Christopher Lee Goodwin and his wife Erica Goodwin and two great grandsons, Hollis Judah and Hudson Luke Goodwin of Chester SC: a sister Mildred Robbins of Greenville, SC. He was pre-deceased by brothers, John Wesley Beachum and Raymond Beachum and sisters: Gladys Sistare, Ruth Handy and Florence Beachum. A celebration of his life will be held at Brakefield at Riverwalk, 1111 Brakefield Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29730 on Monday, December 8th 2014. The memorial service will at 6:00 in the evening with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation.
