Fred Lee Blackwelder, Jr.

Rock Hill - Mr. Fred Lee Blackwelder, Jr., 88, died Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2010, at Fort Mill Church of God with Revs Larry Nivens and Gerald Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be in Forrest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Blackwelder was a son of the late Fred Lee Blackwelder, Sr. and Lula G. Blackwelder. He was a faithful member of Cedar Street Church of God and in his later years was a faithful member of Fort Mill Church of God. He worked in the textile and manufacturing industries. He retired from Willamette. He loved to read and study WW II history. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was also a devout Christian.

Surviving are his son, Terry Blackwelder (Teresa); three daughters, Virginia Lockridge (Steve), Brenda Drake, and Kay Wright (David) all of Rock Hill; one brother, Ernest Blackwelder (Kathleen) of Martinsburg, WV; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruby H. Blackwelder; seven brothers, Brent, Otto, Buster, Marshall, Horace, Whitey and Jimmie; and one sister, Elsie Blackwelder.
