Fred Hennessey, 85, died August 31st surrounded by his family at his home in Fort Mill, SC. Fred was born at home in Charlotte, NC on April 23, 1928 and was the son of late Jack Henry Hennessey and Gladys Bigbee Hennessey. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, September 7th at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Rd., Fort Mill, SC 29715 with Father John Giuliani, C.O. and Father Ed McDermott, C.O. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday, September 6th at Palmetto Funeral Home, Fort Mill, SC. Fred grew up in Glen Rock, NJ and graduated from Ridgewood High School, Ridgewood, NJ. After 2 years of service in the Marines "Once a Marine, always a Marine" he attended The Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science where, in 1952, he graduated with a BS Degree in Chemistry. He followed the path of his father and enjoyed a long and illustrious career in the textile dye and chemical business. In 1967 he moved to Yardley, PA where he served as the Technical Director of the Cold Spring Bleachery until 1971. From 1971 to 1983 he worked as a manufacturer's rep for a myriad of dye & chemical companies that included US Oil Co, Raytex Chemical, Fabricolor, and Hoechst. In 1983 Fred and Vickie moved to Lake Wylie, SC and he served as the southern Sales Manager for SUS Chemical Co in Rock Hill, SC. In 1984 Fred, along with several partners, purchased SUS Chemical and he served as President of the company for the remainder of his career. SUS Chemical was sold to Ivax in 1988 and was renamed Ivax Industries, Textile Products Division. Fred retired from Ivax in 1993. Golf was Fred's biggest passion - nothing could beat a day of golf. He was a member of the Yardley County Club from 1972-1983 and then the River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie, SC where he served as President of the club in 1995 and 1996. Fred thoroughly enjoyed socializing and had a wonderful and persistent sense of humor. He was an extraordinarily generous man who had genuine interest in, and concern for, all that were in his life. His interest and concern was exemplified by his actions as he consistently would be the first one to step in and help someone. To the very end his concern was solely for the well being of others and not of himself. Fred is survived by his wife Vickie Dunne Hennessey; 3 children: son Kevin, and wife Nancy of Frederick, MD; Daughter Colleen of Tega Cay, SC; son Tim, and wife Maureen of Yardley, PA; 7 grandchildren: Lauren, Megan, Teddy, Kiernan, Harrison, Deirdre, and Eva. 1 brother: Tom and wife Donna of Treasure Island, FL; and many nieces and nephews whom he adored very dearly. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1230 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.palmettofh.com.
