Frederick Ivan Lindenbaum

December 3, 1956 — January 2, 2019

Fred Lindenbaum's life was cut short at age 62 after a 2 year battle with colon cancer. He was born a Yankee (Bronx, NY) and lived and loved the way of life as a southerner for the last 22 years (Fort Mill, SC) although he never did lose his New York accent!

One of the happiest points in his life is when he met and married his wife Lynette.

Fred proudly served his country for 10 years as a U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Special Agent. He retired (2018) from the Department of Homeland Security as an Immigration Services Officer (#9107) after serving for 20+ years.

A non-conformist to the core and ‘til the bitter end, Fred loved to ride his motorcycle and watch boxing, was an active member of the NRA, and played rock n' roll music all day (and night) long. He fiercely loved Da BoyZ (Seeger, Dante, Bronson, and Shiloh) his dogs.

Fred could always be found wearing his very favorite attire, a t-shirt or tank top and jeans, all one color: black. And don't forget the cowboy boots or sandals he donned as he relaxed by the side of his pool.

Known to his family and friends as an articulate word smith and creative mind, you could always count on receiving the perfect occasion card from him - everyone was always giddy with joy and delighted when they received postage bearing his name. His natural ability to articulate and describe his perception of the world moved many and gave us a deeper understanding of the knowledgeable man he was.

Fred loved a good debate on any topic and could make the room light up with laughter at his quick and witty sense of humor and special smile. He liked to have a good time be it playing poker or sitting around having a few beers with family and friends. Fred was quite a charmer and when he was really young, he even talked his dad into buying a drum set for him instead of a refrigerator for the family.

Survivors are Fred's beloved wife Lynette, mother Muriel "Micki" Lindenbaum, "Broski" Neil (Esther "Esta" Miller) Lindenbaum, sister-in-law "Sissy" Alynda McLaughlin, and Fred was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephew Jordan, Ari, Kelly, and Yona. Fred was predeceased by his beloved father Julius "Bear/Red" Lindenbaum.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday January 5, 2019 at St. Ann's Catholic Church (3635 Park Road, Charlotte, NC) and Fred will be buried in a Veteran's cemetery near his father in Boca Raton, Florida.

Donations can be made in Fred's name to St. Ann's Church (via check with a notation in the memo field) or the American Cancer Society.
