Garland 'Garth' Ray Sweatt

Rock Hill, SC Garland "Garth" Ray Sweatt, 48, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at home. He was born to Sharon Sweatt and Donald Sweatt in Rock Hill, SC on December 1st of 1965. He attended Rock Hill High School, and after graduation signed up to join the Navy. In military service, he served aboard the USS America as a flight mechanic from January 1985 until 1988. He then re-enlisted 4 months later and served in Pensacola on shore duty until 1990. After the Navy, he continued working as a mechanic on cars and in general working with his hands. His passions throughout his life included playing guitar, drawing, writing poetry, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He had an incredible love for music from an early age that he shared with numerous people throughout his life. He was married twice, first to Melissa Dunn then to Suphaporn Lewis. He had three sons whom he loved dearly. He devoted much of his life to raising his 3 sons and shared with them his love for music, art, and sports. Garth is survived by his three sons, John Ollis Sweatt, Gaven Ray Sweatt, and Anthony Steven DiPrima; his mother, Sharon Sweatt; his father, Donald R. Sweatt; his sister Marty Sweatt Mathis; his brother Donald Brian Sweatt; along with his nephews and nieces. To all whom he loved dearly; his family was the most important to him. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Palmetto Funeral Home with his family. Visitation will be held an hour before the service from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends directly after the service at Palmetto Funeral Home, and at his mother's house for all other times. Condolences to the family may be made at www.palmettofh.com.
