Gary Leon Akers, Sr.

Gary Leon Akers, Sr., of 530 Stacy Lane, Richburg, SC, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021, at his home.

Born, February 4, 1937, in Grayson County Virginia, Gary was the son of the late John H. Akers and Mabel P. Akers and the husband of the late Betty Akers.  He was a Korean War Veteran and a member of the Richburg Baptist Church.  He was a retired welder with Duke Energy and a Mason.

Gary is survived by his son, Barry Akers and spouse Phillip Strickland; a brother, G. Tracey Akers and wife Connie; a sister, Jeanie Keen and husband Oadie, a grandson, Jason Bennett; a granddaughter, Amanda Buchanan and three great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his Care Giver, Susan Gregory.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Akers, Jr. and wife Annette, a  daughter, Deborah  Bennett and a sister, Brenda Shepherd.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Whitesell Funeral Home Chapel.  An 11:00 AM Graveside Service will be Thursday, July 22, 2021 in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, VA.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
