Gennive Williams Cook

Rock Hill – Mrs. Gennive Williams Cook, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Sunday, April 2, 2023, at New Vision Free Will Baptist Church, 2563 Mt. Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 pm Monday, April 3, 2023, at New Vision Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Daggett Duncan officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Edgemoor, SC Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late James Roland Williams and Viola Strickland Williams.  She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart and enjoyed gospel singing.  She was the oldest charter member of New Vision Free Will Baptist Church.  Family was always an important part of her life.  She loved to be apart of family gathering and taking an annual vacation with her sisters.  She will be remembered as the first lady who ever worked as a fabricator at Duke Power Nuclear Station where she retired after 13 years.  She also retired from Winthrop University where she worked as a custodian.  She was a person who loved to read and lend a helping hand with people who were in need.  She will be remembered as a person who was giving and forgiving.

Surviving are her 6 children, Cindy Upchurch (Tommy), Janice Lindsay (David), Donna Cook, Keith Cook, Renae Stewart (Bo), and Julie Ann Commander; two sisters, Lucille Bryant (David) and Debbie Beacham (Buddy); and 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and was expecting her first great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cook; son, Sonny Cook; two grandsons, Todd Upchurch and Tony Long; three sisters, Dorothy Carter, Violet Caudle Thompson, and Elaine Trull; and a brother, Jimmy Williams.

Memorial donation may be made to New Vision Free Will Baptist Church.
