George Franklin Elkins, 70, of Rock Hill, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday January 4th surrounded by his family. He was born July 20, 1950 in Rock Hill, SC. Son of the late Oscar and Evelyn Elkins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Dianne Elkins and a brother James Elkins.
George was a veteran of the US Army and was proud to have served his country.
George believed in working hard. He worked at General Tire for 30 years and retired from Frito Lay after 12 years. To George work wasn't just a job it was time with family. He loved his work family like his own and hated when he had to retire. He was a talented maintenance technician and electrician.
When you talked to George you could hear and see the love of Christ shine through him. He loved everyone and would do anything to help those in need. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was loved by so many. He loved to fish with his grandkids and plant a garden in the summer so he could share the vegetables with others. George was known as Poppy to his grandkids who he loved dearly. He loved spending time with his family and loved working outdoors. You could see him most days out on the farm driving the tractor. Another hobby he had was making beautiful walking canes. If you really knew George he was always "Mighty Fine" and the truth is he is definitely "Mighty Fine" now!
