Mr. George Stephen Felber, 95, resident of Westminster Health and Rehab Center, Rock Hill, died Sunday, December 23, 2012. Mr. Felber, son of John and Mary Gebhard Felber was born November 15, 1917 in Newark, NJ and resided in Hillside, NJ for many years. Mr. Felber was a 1940 graduate of Newark College of Engineering (now New Jersey Institute of Technology) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a career employee of American Can Company. He began as a draftsman in the company's Newark Engineering Department and later became a sales engineer stationed in various field offices. At the time of his retirement in 1982, Mr. Felber was Technical Assistant to the General Manager, Customer's Equipment Division at the company headquarters in Greenwich, CT. A Life Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Mr. Felber was also a member of Tau Beta Pi National Honorary Fraternity. For over 79 years he was an avid and active Amateur Radio Operator. His original call sign was W2GFN. Later he was recognized by his call sign W1WW and before his death had worked over 100 countries primarily using Morse Code. He was a Life Member and a past officer of the York County Amateur Radio Society. Mr. Felber was married to Yetta Peschel who predeceased him in 2001. Mr. Felber was also predeceased by his parents and sister, Lillian Felber Post. He is survived by his sister, Jane Felber Coolican, Forest Hill, MD, and his brother, John E. Felber, Hillside, NJ; his niece, Lois Post Zwerko, Manville, NJ; his nephews, Michael Coolican, Hopatcong, NJ, and John Cooligan, Forest Hill, MD. Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, at Westminster Towers Community Room from 4 to 5 P.M. Bass Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill is in charge of local arrangements. Bradley, Haeberle and Barth Funeral Home, Union, NJ is in charge of the NJ arrangements.
