George F. Jacobs Jr., 86, passed away at his home in Tega Cay, on December 10, 2022. He valiantly battled Lymphoma for 4 years. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was the devoted son of the late George F. and Arline V. (Jess) Jacobs.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Claire Louise (Gagne) Jacobs, his brother, Carl Jacobs, and his beautiful granddaughter Virginia “Ginny” Carroll Sanchez.
George was the oldest of 10 children. His surviving siblings are Ralph S. Jacobs, Tommy A. Jacobs, Ronald J. Jacobs, Sandra C. Plourde, Linda M. Murray-Gagne, Leo M. Jacobs, Susan E. Harris, and Katheen J. Michienzi.
In addition to his siblings, George has 7 children. His daughter, Lori E. Jacobs of Rock Hill, Son, Daniel G. Jacobs (Tracy) of The Colony, Texas, Daughters, Deanna L. Koverman (Rick) Tega Cay, Robin M. Herrera (Luis) York, Yvonne A. Jacobs-Leon (Frank) Tega Cay, Tammie A. Stahl Tega Cay, and Eric D. Jacobs (Susan) Fort Mill. 15 Grandchildren, Brian E. Dunn, Julie M. Outen, Clinton G. Dunn, Nicholas G. Jacobs, Benjamin T. Jacobs, Daniel J. Koverman, Nathan J. Koverman, Ashley N. Russell, Samantha P. Jenkins, Rebekah C. Leon, Isaac G. Leon, Guillermo N. Leon, Anna C. Stahl, George F. Jacobs III, and Waylon J. Jacobs. 18 Great grandchildren.
George also leaves behind his devoted friend and sweetheart of over 10 years, Diane Marie Bungay. Her sons, Anthony Lamattina (Laura), Thomas Bungay (Jenn), and Michael Bungay. Predeceased by her son, Mark Bungay. 11 Grandchildren, Brandon Lamattina, Isabella Lamattina, Maria Lamattina, Joshua Bungay, Kyle Bungay, Christopher Bungay, Thomas Bungay, Ryan Bungay, Brandon Bungay, Frannie Bungay, and Michael Bungay.
George graduated from Norton High School and joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country as a Marine for 4 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to enjoy a lifelong career with Factory Mutual Engineering Company. In his retirement years, he was a substitute teacher for the Fort Mill School system for over 20 years. He loved teaching students and telling his stories. He was an excellent story teller.
George has been a long-time member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC. He was a devoted Catholic. He always worked hard and enjoyed taking care of his house on the lake. He loved boating on the lake, and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to waterski. George was a traveler and every year went on an adventure with his brothers out west. His favorite place was the Grand Canyon. He took at least 6 river rafting trips through the Grand Canyon on the Colorado river. George loved the ocean and spent as much time as possible swimming in the surf.
A Memorial Mass will be held on December 17, 2022 at 1:30 PM, at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
