Mrs. Georgianna Bova Strickland, 89, formerly of 230 Pointe Circle, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Watertown, MA, Mrs. Strickland was born April 19, 1921 a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Peritano Bova. She was a registered nurse and was a retired nursing supervisor from Taylor County Florida Public Health after 20 years of service. While living in Florida she formed The Association for Retarded Children and started a classroom in 1968 with funding from Proctor and Gamble. After retirement she moved to Rock Hill to be near her granddaughters and became a Pink Lady Volunteer at Piedmont Medical Center. She was a member of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Ft. Mill. In addition to her parents Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband Earl C. Strickland and nine brothers and sisters Surviving are her daughter Janet S. Kent and her husband Mike of Rock Hill; two granddaughters Kristina Kent of New Orleans, LA and Sara Kent of Rock Hill; a brother Leonard Bova of Ohio and a sister Francis Kohloff of Chula Vista, CA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Strickland will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Father John Guiliani officiating. The family suggests that those who wish may make donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 6000 Fairview Rd # 648, Charlotte, NC 28210-3292
