Gerald Stanley Rose, 81, (Stan or GanGan to those who knew him) passed away peacefully August 8, 2021 at White Oak Manor.
Stan was born in Camden, South Carolina to Stanley Norman Rose and Josephine Thornton Rose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son Samuel Norman Rose, sisters June Rose Pritchard and Pricilla Lane Rose Watts.
Stan was a Boy Scout and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father and grandfather. In addition, he loved baseball and played in the Pony League World Series in Pennsylvania, his first real adventure outside of South Carolina. Stan graduated from Camden High School, where he lettered in football.
He was the first in his family to attend college and graduated from Clemson University in 1962 with a degree in Textile Chemistry. A real entrepreneur, he successfully created three companies and a working livestock farm. He enjoyed traveling the world, a childhood dream. A voracious reader and lover of history, he sometimes would read three or more books at once.
Stan was a faithful member of Aldersgate Methodist Church for over 50 years, served on various committees and sang in the church choir. He had a kind, loving and generous heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Sharon Anne Elsey. They were married for 61 years. Together they have four children: Gerald Stanley Rose, Jr, (Patti); Kevin Aaron Rose (Brenda); Samuel Walter Rose II (Donna); and JoAnne Lee Rose Barrett (Jason). Grandchildren: Josh, Olivia, Georgia Lee, Christy, Megan, Kristen, Austin, Dalton, Hayden, Spencer, Daniel and Allison Great Grandchildren: Maggie, Sadie, AubreiAnn, Kinsley and countless honorary family members.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Steve Holler officiating. The family will receive friends and family in the Parlor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Aldersgate Methodist Church, 2115 Celanese Road, Rock Hill, S.C. 29732; Hospice Community Care, 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, S.C. 29732 or the organization of your choice.
