Giles Larry McCarty of Tega Cay, SC passed away on March 4 due to complications from COVID. He was born in Conway, Arkansas on August 5, 1941 to Elvin & Onethia McCarty. At 6 months of age, his family moved to Michigan where he lived until age 39 when he was transferred with his family to Charlotte, NC. He was a certified mechanical engineer (GMAC studies) and machine tool salesman for 40 years before retirement. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who truly loved his family. He loved attending his grandsons’ baseball games and his granddaughters’ tennis matches. Hobbies included continuously seeking collectibles, golf, target shooting, poker, canasta, as well as being a private pilot. Joining his men’s breakfast group was a passion for him. He and Betty were able to visit 48 of the United States and they especially enjoyed an extensive World War II historial tour of Europe. He also enjoyed several cruises.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 33 years -- Betty McCarty of Tega Cay, SC; daughter, Kimberley McCarty of Quantico, VA; son, Chris (Kelly) McCarty of Fort Mill, SC; daughter Dawne (Keith) Reddeck of Fort Mill, SC. Grandchildren include Madison & Kendall McCarty and Preston (Maggie) and Griffin Reddeck of Fort Mill, SC; and great-grandson Sawyer, as well as several of his cousins.
Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill, SC is handling his cremation. Due to COVID, no funeral will be held at this time.
A memorial service will be held Saturday May 22, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of Palmetto Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
