Glen Edward Self

ROCK HILL- Rev. Glen Edward Self Sr. went to be with his Savior on Monday, January 11, 2010, surrounded by family, after a long battle with COPD.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, at NewKirk Baptist Church, 175 Museum Road, Rock Hill, with Rev. Glen Edward Self Jr. and Rev. Charles Tanner officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery, Hollis Lakes Road, with Rev. Jeramy Herring officiating.

Born in Kershaw, Glen is the son of the late William Raleigh Self and the late Inez Jordan Self. He was a member and former pastor of Oakwood Acres Baptist Church, Rock Hill. His first pastorate was at McConnells Baptist Church, McConnells, S.C., followed by Woodvale Baptist Church, Rock Hill, where he served for 31 years. He also served in the U.S. Army in Japan. Before becoming a pastor, Glen worked in textiles including Highland Park Mill and later in the business office at York Technical College. As a pastor, he served God and his flock and was beloved by many. Glen loved camping with his family, especially at Huntington Beach and Wateree State Parks. He loved painting, photography, and computer graphic design. Glen was a loving husband to Eleanor Finley Self for 51 years and a dedicated father and grandfather. He is now in the arms of Jesus reuniting with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Janice Self Dulaney and husband Lee, Julie Self Buchanan and husband Dane, Karen Elizabeth Self Taylor (Beth) and husband Robbie; sons, Rev. Glen Self Jr. and wife Julie, Mark Finley Self and wife Thea; sisters, Peggy Self Brazil and Frances Self Mynatt; brothers, William Jerry Self, Donnie Jordan Self, David Raleigh Self; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Franklin Self.
The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at NewKirk Baptist Church.
