Gordon Clarkson died suddenly on Tuesday, September 7 at the age of 61 at his home in Tega Cay, South Carolina. Gordon is survived by Martha, his wife of 35 years; his daughter and son, Stephanie and Eric; his sister, Linda Schaeffer, and her husband, Hank; and his brother, George Haynes. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Dale Haynes and Teri Kibler. Gordon is also survived by a numerous list of other relatives including cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
Gordon was born on January 14, 1960, in Catonsville, Maryland to Bessie and Gary Custer. His grandmother, Sadie (Clarkson) Chambers, played an important role during his early years. Gordon received his high school education at Mt. Hebron High School in Ellicott City, Maryland. After high school, he attended numerous advanced technology courses, receiving several certifications to advance his career. He was employed by Duron Paint Company for over 10 years. For the past 23 years, Gordon worked for Marriott Hotels, primarily as an IT Specialist. On June 14, 1986, Gordon married the love of his life, Martha, and on June 30, 1987, and October 2, 1991, respectively, they both welcomed Stephanie and Eric into this world.
Gordon enjoyed a vast array of interests and hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling overseas on ocean cruises, contributing to national weather databases through his study of meteorology, and piloting various aircrafts across the country using airplane simulators. He loved connecting with others through these interests and learning all he could from anyone willing to share. Gordon was naturally humorous and could make a room light up with laughter. His ability to care for others knew no bounds.
