Hamilton Scherer Gambill, 82, a former resident of Harrisonburg, VA went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2012, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC. Mr. Gambill was born on October 29, 1929, in Harrisonburg, VA. He was the youngest of eight children born to Dr. John Randolph Gambill and Alice Filler Gambill. After graduation from Harrisonburg High School in 1947, he attended Madison College, and then served in the US Navy. He returned to Harrisonburg in 1950 and worked in the petroleum distribution business, first in partnership with his father-in-law, Glen K. Shomo; then for Flippo Oil Co. He then went to work for Kawneer in 1970, where he worked until retirement in 1992. Hamilton was a charter member of the Harrisonburg Church of the Nazarene, where he raised his family and served in many service and leadership capacities. In his later years he was a faithful member of Dayspring Church of the Nazarene in Mt Crawford, VA. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Joann Shomo Gambill in 2004, and an infant son, Neil Eric Gambill in 1952, one sister, Florence Simon of Harleysville, PA and two brothers, Victor Gambill of Norfolk, Va and Dr. Emerson Gambill of Harrisonburg, VA. He is survived by three children, Jo Ellen Barnett of Hermitage TN, Geron Gambill and wife, Kathy, of Fayetteville NC, and Scherel Fisher and husband, Rick, of Ft. Mill, SC; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Aurelia Gambill of Harrisonburg, VA and three brothers, Dr. J. Randolph Gambill Jr. of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joe Gambill of Harrisonburg, VA, and Kenton Gambill of Strasburg, VA. A memorial service will be held in Harrisonburg, VA in May. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dayspring Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 267, Mt. Crawford, VA 22841 or Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
