Harold Ray Chancey

Harold Ray Chancey, lovingly referred to as Grandpa (Grrpa, G'Pa) by his family, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was 84 years old. He was born May 22, 1938 in Spencer, WV to the late Auvil B. Chancey and Ethel Mae Chancey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Coomes.

Harold was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Sissonville High School. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1961 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for many years as a chemical engineer, retiring from Penta Engineering in 2003.

Harold was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church where he attended for 44 years.

Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid reader and spent lots of time researching genealogy, contributing to several books. He delighted in spending time with his cherished grandchildren.

He will be forever missed by his survivors, his bride of nearly 50 years, Marcella Chancey; sister, Mary Talbott of Big Rock, Virginia; son, John Chancey and wife, Heidi of Fort Mill, SC; daughter Caren Chancey and husband Stephen Stewart of Vienna, Virginia; and five granddaughters, Ella, Harper, Caroline, Melody, and Natalie.

A celebration of life will be held at Community Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 29, with visitation beginning at 11:00, service at noon, and interment following at Unity Cemetery Mausoleum.
