Mr. Harry Lee Helms, Jr., age 57, of Fort Mill, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill.

There will be a receiving of family and friends in his honor on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Palmetto Funeral Home in Fort Mill from 3pm to 4pm.

Harry was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia on September 26, 1952, and was the son of the late Harry Lee Helms Sr. and the late Annie Ervin Helms Stuart. He was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina. Harry was an accomplished editor for McGraw Hill and Academic Press as well as co-owner of LLH Publishing in Solana Beach, California. In addition to his successful career as editor, he was a prolific writer and had sixteen books published throughout his lifetime. His first love was writing but he also enjoyed climbing mountains and to his credit he climbed the highest peaks in Nevada, California, Colorado and Arizona. Harry enjoyed volunteering for the San Diego Humane Shelter as well as sponsoring homeless rabbits through the House Rabbit Society of San Diego. Harry was also a licensed Ham Radio operator and wrote many articles for their publication.

Surviving are his wife: Dianna of Fort Mill, one aunt: Polly Collins of Fort Mill, five uncles: Archie Ervin and wife Joyce of Fort Mill, Baxter Ervin and Frances of Charlotte, NC, Grady Ervin and wife Betty of Fort Mill, John H, Ervin and wife Floy of Fort Mill, and Rev. David Ervin and wife Judy of Spartanburg, and numerous cousins.
