Pineville, NC - Harry Joseph Hoppmann Jr. passed away on the evening of December 26, 2021, at the age of 76, resting comfortably in Pineville, NC, where he has resided for the last 20 years.
Harry was born on April 30,1945 in Charleston, SC. He graduated high school from Bishop England. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in History at Clemson University in 1967. Harry served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1974 at which time he was honorably discharged with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Harry had a successful career in Personnel and Human Resources Management before retiring and spending his time focused on his children and grandchildren. In addition to his family, Harry loved the beach, was very athletic, and known for his generosity, wit, and humor.
Harry is survived by his sisters, Sherry and Gail; a brother, Richard; a son, Harry; daughters, Emmy and Heather; four grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC on Sunday, January 9th, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors at The Rockbridge Club, 4135 Rockbridge Rd, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made in honor of Harry to Hidden Wounds (hiddenwounds.org) in support of PTSD and combat stress assistance.
