Rock Hill, SC – Mr. Hazel Edward Brown, Sr., 81, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Monday, January 6, 2025, at Whitesell Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Catawba Ward with Bishop Matt Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, SC Mr. Brown was a son of the late Richard Brown and Mary Ann Ayers Brown Gibson. When Mr. Brown was a child, he and his cousin, Phillip enjoyed working with their grandfather, Early Brown on the Catawba River Ferry. After owning a successful bar for many years, in his retirement years, he started a lawncare business where he served thirty customers. He enjoyed riding his Harley and will be remembered as a avid pool player who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather.
Surviving are his two sons, Hazel Edward Brown, Jr (Tammy) and Jeffrey Brown (Sherri); a brother, Herman Lewis Brown (Hilda); a sister, Sue Brown Gunderson; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved and adored him. He was preceded in death by Barbara Ann Benfield; a daughter, Annette Hubbard; two brothers, Donald L. Brown and Roddey Brown; two sisters, Nettie Brown Kimbrell Funderburk and Grace Willis; his maternal grandparents, Early Brown and Edith Harris Brown; and his paternal grandparents, Johnnie Ayers and Ruth Gordon Ayers.
