Hazel Boyd Carroll, 78, of 5288 Billy Wilson Road, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Carroll was born February 6, 1932 a daughter of the late Pinkney Alexander and Ola Estelle Burris. She was a member of The York County Manufactured Housing Association where she was former Vice President, was a board member for The Council on Aging, former member of the Shepard Center and member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Carroll went back to school at 40 and worked full time and received her associates degree from Winthrop University. She succeeded in building the first playgrounds for the Head Start Program where she taught. She was very a passionate about the well being of the research at Wake Forest University where she made substantial donations for their research. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Abel Carroll, Sr. Surviving are two sons Charles Abel Carroll, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Chester, Robert Stephen Carroll and his wife Cynde of Rock Hill; two grandchildren Shannon Hope Carroll, Charles Adam Carroll and his wife Amy; one great grandchild Brooke Carroll. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Carroll will be held Friday at 6:00pm in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery in York.
