Rock Hill, SC – Hope Gainey Carter, 78, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024.
She was born on June 4, 1946. Hope was a beacon of love and faith throughout her life, deeply rooted in her Christian beliefs. Hope was a devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions and was a devoted member of the congregation. Her commitment to her faith was evident in all aspects of her life.
She was a loving wife to Parker W. Carter, Sr.; a nurturing mother to Parker W. Carter, Jr (Dessy) and Crystal C. Jolley (Eric); and a doting Nana to her granddaughters, Alexius Marshall (Adam), Brianna Carter (Justin), Lorelai and Sabrina Jolley. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Savannah and Magnolia-Raye Marshall. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Witherspoon (Harvel) and brother, Rob Gainey (Lee) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hope was preceded in death by her brothers, Milas and Charles; and her parents Margaret and Robert.
Beyond her family and church life, Hope was an active member of the Carolinas Miata Club and an enthusiastic supporter of Winthrop University basketball. She enjoyed playing Music Bingo with her friends on Tuesday nights, sharing joy and laughter.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rock Hill, SC at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Hope to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, continuing her legacy of faith and community support.
