Hugh Alfred Bridges

April 10, 1927 — July 20, 2020

Born 4/10/1927, Hugh Alfred Bridges went to join his late wife, Dot, on the anniversary of their wedding on 7/20/2020.  Can you imagine what a sweet welcome awaited him?

During his life, while he was still able, Hugh’s favorite pastime was to grow his vegetables and share them with as many friends as possible.  He loved telling stories of his childhood, especially days on the family farm, military traveling days, and shared many recipes from Dot’s cooking.  Boy, did he love her cooking! He loved to fish and did so as often as he could with good friends.  He loved his Lord and attended Flint Hill Baptist Church most all of his adult life.

Hugh was born in Cleveland County, NC, where he grew up with 7 siblings on the family farm.  He graduated from Tryon High School, then left for the Army, where he attended radio school.  After WWII and his Army discharge, he continued his career in TV/radio repair and ultimately became a certified electronic techician.

Hugh is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Vernon & Susan, and his granddaughter & husband, Stephanie & Kendall Hammonds, and his great grandchildren, Genevieve Hammonds, Jaxson Hammonds, and Jensen Hammonds, his 2 brothers and their wives, Troy & Polly Bridges and Robert & Bonnie Bridges, and his sister-in-law, Frances Bridges (Coy’s wife).  The rest of his family is celebrating in heaven with him - his mom & dad, Lillian & Thomas Bridges, his brother, Coy, and his brother & spouse, Kirk & Ruth Bridges, and his sisters and their spouses, Margaret & Tom Hamrick, Betty & Boyd Howell, and Zoe & CB Scism.  What a family reunion!

Due to the Covid pandemic, he will be laid to rest at Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery with only his immediate family attending.  There will be a celebration of his life held after the pandemic, hopefully next year.
