Hugh Marcus Grasty

Rock Hill – Mr. Hugh Marcus Grasty, 83, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House peacefully surrounded by his family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill from 6:00pm-7:30pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Roddey Baptist Church, 2678 S Anderson Road, Catawba, SC with Pastor Anthony Queen and Mr. W.J. Grasty officiating. Burial immediately following the service at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill.

Born in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, Mr. Grasty was the son of the late John Wesley and Ethel Marcus Grasty. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, James, Weaver, Charles, Jack, Kyle and Ted; and sisters-in-law Lib Grasty and Marvalene Grasty. Hugh graduated from Waynesville Township High School in 1957, played football for the Waynesville Mountaineers High School and 1 year of college at Western Carolina.

Hugh was a humble, devoted Christian who loved serving his church and teaching Sunday School. He served as a deacon for Roddey Baptist Church for many years. He was awarded Honorary Deacon for Roddey Baptist Church on November 1, 2020. He retired from Bowater after 33 years as Forman of #1 Paper Machine.

Hugh is survived by his wife Evelyn Hightower Grasty of 64 years; their three children, Debra Grasty (Jimmy) Starnes, Jeffrey Lynn (Jill) Grasty, and Anita Jewel (Jackie) Feemster; 6 grandchildren, Meaghan Jewel (Christopher) Workman, Jason Marcus Mitchell (Andrea) Ledbetter, Amy Starnes, W.J. (Casey) Grasty , Callie Grasty (Brett) Arbaugh and Marcus Lee Feemster; 11 great-grandchildren, Allyson Jewel Ferguson, Ryliegh Elizabeth Ferguson, TJ Putman, Caitlin Danielle McCray, London Lyric McCray, Ella McKee Grasty, Collin Hughes Putman, Addisyn Paige Ledbetter, Cailean William Workman, Kensleigh Chanel Ledbetter, and Cooper Edwin Arbaugh; 3 sister-in-laws Margaret Grasty, Guylene Grasty, and Jennifer Grasty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Grasty’s name to Roddey Baptist Church “Building Fund Project”, PO Box 36, Catawba, SC 29704 or Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
