Fort Mill, SC - Iris Leazelle McKinney “Zell”, 85, was carried to heaven on Sunday morning, June 18th, 2023, at home in the care of her granddaughter.
She joined her husband, Jack Edward McKinney “Black Jack”; her mother, Maggie Garris; and her three brothers, Bobbie Kitchens, John Billy “JB” Kitchens, and Cecil Lamar King.
Zell was born October 14th, 1937, on Sidney Johnson Street, Fort Mill, where she was raised until she married at the young age of 13, to the love of her life Jack, who saw her eating an ice cream while riding his motorcycle and it was love at first sight. They were married nearly 60 years. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, many described her as an angel, one of the sweetest people they’d ever met. Her late brother, Lamar testified, while teaching her to drive, she ran them into a ditch to avoid a butterfly. Compassionate by nature, she truly had the kindest of hearts.
She loved animals, children, opening the doors to let in the light, cooking more than enough to make sure everyone was fed, and she really loved when the good guys caught the bad ones on tv. She was a member of Sisk memorial church.
In addition to making a home and raising a family she worked at Woolworth, Tollison Neal drug store, and Revco/CVS until she retired there after over 25 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Ray Ann Webb and son in law Grady Webb of Fort Mill; her granddaughter, Tabitha Mayne; and grandson in law, Christopher Mayne of Fort Mill; her grandson, Melvin Webb of Fort Mill; and her cat, LePoof.
