Jack G. Channell of Fort Mill, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He was born August 31, 1932 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Ernest John Channell and Della (Cisak) Channell. He was one of three children. He graduated from Sand Springs High School in May 1950 then spent two years in the army stationed in Korea from June 1953-October 1954. After the service, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University graduating in 1959 with a degree in accounting. Following graduation, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service for three years. He then answered a call from the Lord to become a pastor and enrolled in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary graduating in 1967 with a Master of Divinity Degree. In the summer of 1967, Jack started a church in Avon, Ohio working with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for four years. The next church he served in was Red Oak Baptist Church (Atlanta, Georgia) where he served for four years as an assistant pastor. His final pastorate lasted for 27 years as pastor of Northwood Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. He retired December 2002. After moving to Fort Mill, SC, he and his wife Barbara became active members of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill where he served as President of Senior Adults and went on many mission trips including Brazil, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Israel serving our Lord. Jack loved being outdoors - hunting, fishing, and enjoying nature. He also enjoyed working with his hands building many projects. His greatest joy was serving the Lord in any way possible. Jack loved his family and spending time with his wife, children, and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Gene. He is survived by his wife of 57 years- Barbara Jo Channell, his three children Stephen Kelly Channell and his wife Kathleen of Summerville, SC; Della Jane Runnels and her husband Jeffrey of Wichita, KS; and Deborah Jo Turner and her husband Brian of Fort Mill, SC; and ten grandchildren: Alyssa, Rebekah, Victoria, and Stephen Channell; Rachel, Zachary, Abigail, and Jack Runnels; Nicholas and Chanel Turner; his sister Betty Lawrence and her husband Michael of Dunwoody, Georgia. He is also survived by four nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family would like for memorials to be made to Mission: Dignity Assisting Retired Ministers and Spouses C/O Guidestone Financial Resources, PO Box 2190 Dallas, Texas 75221-9954. Palmetto Funeral Home will be assisting the family. Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Fort Mill, SC at 7pm Thursday, January 30th, 2014. The burial will be at 1:00 pm Friday, January 31st, 2014 at Northwood Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. He was dearly loved and will be missed and remembered by all.
