Jacqueline Ruth Darby Thompson, 77, of Rock Hill, SC, and formerly of Columbia, SC passed away at home on Saturday, August 22, 2021. She was born January 6, 1944 in Pensacola, FL, daughter of the late James Ainsley Darby and Kitty Gordon Darby.
Jackie was a brilliant, hard working and devoted mother of 3, who went back to school in her 60s to become a geriatric social worker for underserved populations most in need. She worked at Central Midlands Council on the Aging until her retirement before relocating to Rock Hill, SC to run the family real estate business until her death.
Jackie will be remembered for her curiosity and compassion for others, her delight of the simplest pleasures, and her incredible laugh.
She is survived by her three children, Kenneth Evan Thompson of Boston, MA, Ainsley Teresa Thompson of Denver, CO, and Gordon Darby Thompson of Boston, MA, her granddaughter, Charlotte Anais Eluere-Thompson of Boston MA, her sister Brenda Darby Harris of Durham, NC and her brother James Ainsley Darby Jr. of Rock Hill, SC.
A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, September 14th at 10am at Bethesda Presbyterian Church 4858 McConnells Hwy York, SC 29745.
In remembrance of Jackie’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Upstate Forever, a conservation nonprofit that protects land and water in Upstate South Carolina.
