James “Jim” Alan Alfors, was a kind, caring, and generous husband, father, brother, and friend. He went home to God on June 2nd, 2022, at 72 years young.
Jim was born in Rockford, IL, to Godfrey and Meryl Alfors on February 14th, 1950. It was fitting that Jim was born on a day to celebrate love, because Jim radiated love to all those around him. He graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1972, the same year he married the love of his life, ShirLee.
Jim served in the Illinois National Guard from 1972 to 1978, while building his career as an engineer. In 1979, Jim and ShirLee celebrated the birth of their son, Stephen, and a move to Orlando, FL. They completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Suzanne. The family settled in Fort Mill, SC in 1997, where Jim worked at Optimec until his retirement in 2018.
As well as being a skilled engineer, Jim was a dedicated member of his church, serving as a usher and property committee chairman. Jim was loved by many, and although a quiet man, he was quick with a hug, or a joke that had the whole room laughing. He also used his love of wood-working to build faith boxes for children of new parents in the church.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, SC, on June 24th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church at https://onrealm.org/gracerockhill/-/form/give/now or Providence Care home health service at https://providencecanhelp.com/donate/ .
