James Marvin Barrett, Jr.

February 3, 1952 — November 25, 2023

Catawba, SC

James (Jim or Jimmy) Marvin Barrett, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on November 25, 2023, doing what he loved most - hunting. Born in Charlotte, NC, and spending his final years in Catawba, SC, Jim lived a life full of passion, hard work, and dedication to the people and things he loved.

Jim was born to James Marvin Barrett, Sr., and Virginia Bright Barrett. He was the brother to Phillip Barrett and Susan Bean.

Jim was a proud father to Matthew Brandon Barrett (Kelly Jean Barrett) and Erika Barrett Wolf (James Matthew Wolf). His love for his children was evident in the way he spoke of them and the time he spent with them. He was a guiding light in their lives, teaching them the importance of hard work the joy of spending time outdoors, and the value of pursuing what you love.

His 5 grandchildren, Bryson Reed Barrett, Anna Kate Barrett, Ava Hallie Barrett, Evan Matthew Wolf, and Barrett James Wolf, were the apples of his eye. He loved spending time with them, teaching them about the outdoors, and passing on his love for hunting, fishing, and farming. They called him, Pops and at times just to be funny Popsicle, which he loved. He grew pumpkins in his garden every year just for his grandchildren!

Jim was an intelligent and meticulous man. He was hardworking and generous, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. This was evident in25-year career as a Firefighter for Charlotte Fire Department. He served across the city at various stations, was a training officer at the Charlotte Fire Department Training Academy and retired as a captain in 2005.  After retirement, he became a full time Farmer. Farming brought him a great deal of joy and a sense of accomplishment.

A memorial service for Jim will be held on Friday, December 15,2023, at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill, SC. The family invites all who knew and loved James to join them in celebrating his life and remembering the joy he brought to all their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , a cause close to Jim’s heart. Donations can be made in Jim's name, as a tribute to his generous spirit and his love for this cause.
