James Arthur Bing

November 19, 1949 — June 25, 2019

James "Jim" Arthur Bing, 69, of Charlotte, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Atrium Health of Pineville. He was born November 19, 1949, in Hartford, CT, son of Benjamin and Laura Bing.

Jim grew up in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Weaver High School, Class of 1968. He became a Husky when he attended the University of Connecticut, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

Jim taught for over 30 years as a special education teacher for Hartford Public Schools. During the summers, he worked as a lifeguard for Hartford Parks and Recreation. Teaching was not his only passion: His love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, was even greater. This was evident in his life because his actions spoke louder than words. For almost 30 years, he served in many different capacities including deacon and Assistant Pastor at the Church of the Risen Savior in Rockville, CT. After retirement and moving to North Carolina, Jim continued serving the Lord at Steel Creek Church of Charlotte. Jim and Lourdes helped the marriage mentoring ministry and worked together to teach pre-school Sunday School. Jim also faithfully ministered as a middle school mentor and an active member of a home group.

In 1979, Jim met the love of his life, Lourdes. The two were married on August 16, 1980, and their family grew over the years. One of Jim's favorite pastimes was to be with his family. In addition to his wife, his greatest blessings were his children and grandchildren. The way Jim loved his family was an example of how God loves us. He felt that times spent with loved ones was most often time well spent bringing happiness. Jim also enjoyed fishing during his free time. While in CT, he would always be found on the Natchaug and Fenton Rivers on opening day of fishing season. Fishing was a time of refreshment as he enjoyed God's creation.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lourdes Cruz Bing; children: Rebecca Vienneau, husband Brian Vienneau, Roberta Senter, husband Christopher Senter, Emily McArthur, husband Justin McArthur and James Bing; four grandchildren: Noah McArthur, MacKenzie McArthur, Kaitlyn Vienneau and Josiah Vienneau; sisters: Laura Bardoni, husband Dennis Bardoni, and Catherine Gardner, husband Anthony Gardner; and loved by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Laura Bing.
