James "Ray" Brown, 88, a lifelong resident of Rock Hill, died Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII, attended Woodhaven Baptist Church, and had worked at Celanese for 38 years. Ray was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion Post 34, and the local VFW. He loved sports (especially Gamecock football) and spending quality time with his family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Brown, his second wife of 17 years, Jeanette Brown, and a son, Ray Alston Brown. His parents Harold Ward Brown and Lucille Inman Brown He is survived by: a daughter: Susan B. McCoy and husband Marty; a step-son: Stan Ferguson & wife Karen, along with his son Lee and wife Brooks; a sister: Evelyn Brown Daniel; a brother: Walter Dean Brown and his wife Merle 2 grandsons: Cameron Ray Poling & fiancé Lee Ana Miller, Alston Kelley & girlfriend Megan; 1 great-grandchild: Conner Ray Poling. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tom Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Woodhaven Baptist Church.
