CHESTER - James Louis Bruun, 72, of 1000 Rippling Brook Drive, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home.
Memorial services will be 6:00 PM Friday, March 25, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Saluda Street Chapel.
Born in Morse WI., he is the son of the late Louis T. and Dora Lawver Bruun. Jim retired as a First Lieutenant from the US Navy after twenty-one years of service. During his time in the Navy, he graduated from Purdue University with a BS in electronic engineering and was stationed at Naval bases all over the world. He was an award-winning software designer who worked for multiple private companies and government agencies. He taught computer programming for the US Navy for several years. He trained as a nuclear reactor operator and worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Jim was an avid reader who never stopped learning. He was a licensed private pilot who loved to fly. His time in the Navy created a love for the ocean he never lost. He enjoyed rock hunting, woodworking, carpentry, gardening and Cryptozoology. He was an active member of his church and was an avid sports fan. He loved to share his hobbies and interests with his family and friends, and his passion and wisdom will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Lee Bruun; three sons,
Eric Bruun, Tim Bruun, and David Hadley; three daughters, Kirsten McAllister, Brandie Larsen, and Jennifer Story; two brothers, John Bruun and Victor Bruun; one sister, Louise Hederer; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Kathryn Carter Bruun.
