Indian Land

James (Jim) Frederick Green, 87, of Indian Land, SC passed away on September 10, 2023 at home with family by his side.  A memorial service will be scheduled later in the year to honor Jim’s memory and his accomplishments. We invite you to make a donation to the American Heart Association or to your Local Police Department in Jim’s honor.

Jim was born to James Milton Green and Elvie Rachael Lowery on January 26, 1936 in Campbell, Tx. During this time he was most known as ‘Jimmy’ and attended school in Campbell. Jim was the middle of 3 children and grew up on a small family farm where he learned his work ethic. Jim was also known for his adventurous, carefree, fun loving spirit during this time. Once he turned 18, Jim joined the US Army for two years.

Jim quickly discovered his love for Law Enforcement and serving the community. His law enforcement career began in 1967 with the Plano Police Department. During his career he was a uniformed Patrolman, Detective, Detective Sergeant, Undercover Narcotics Detective, Chief of Commerce Police, Private Investigator and retired as a Sergeant for the Collin County Constables office in 2000. Jim made the most impact on the communities he served during these 33 years. Jim was known for his fairness, for being a mentor, for working diligently to make necessary changes, and was well-respected from all who worked alongside him.

After retirement, Jim and Glenda moved to Whitefish, Montana where they spent 15 wonderful years. Jim thrived in Montana and these were some of his most favorite memories to share with anyone who would listen. He was always asking family or friends to come visit and enjoyed playing the role of tour guide. Jim loved nature, photography, hiking, canoeing, painting, bird watching, exploring and everything that involved spending time outside with nature. For the last 8 years of his life, Jim and Glenda lived in Indian Land, SC where he found a few nature centers to explore and created his own private bird sanctuary in his backyard.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years,Glenda as well as his children Jeff (Janie) Green of Whitefish, MT; Jay Green of Melbourne, FL; Shannon (Erin) Green of Richardson, TX; Angie (Luke) Molinari of Granbury, TX; and Karen (Kevin) Thompson of Fort Mill, SC; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Nell Watkins, many nephews, nieces and friends.

Jim was a truly great man whose impact will forever be felt by his family, friends and everyone who knew him. He loved his family, he loved helping people, he loved nature, and he learned to appreciate the simple things in life the older he lived. Jim would tell you to embrace your unique qualities, appreciate nature, explore the world, take risks, apologize when you're wrong, and most importantly love the people who are closest to you.
