James "Mitch" Mitchell Hearn, 74, returned to his heavenly home on May 22, 2017. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him and ultimately gave him peace. Mitch was born to the late James "Bill" W. and Christine B. Shettles Hearn, a welder and a homemaker respectively, in Pontotoc, MS on November 11, 1942. He graduated from the Waubonsi College and Aurora University with degrees in child psychology and business management. He had careers in engineering and real estate. Mitch was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Janice Lee Hawse Hearn on June 3, 1961, in Aurora, IL. Mitch helped raise his four children with patience, discipline and love. He often took them on long family trips to see natural and historic sites. He dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels. Mitch was good with his hands and could do anything he set his mind to. He had a big heart for the poor and less fortunate, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. Mitch is survived by his wife, Janice; his sons David and Mark; his daughters Julie and Jennifer Dyer; his grandchildren Chelsey Makowski, Aaron Hearn, Amber Boylston; and his great-grandchildren, Steven Hinson, Mikey Hinson, and Shelly Boylston. He is preceded in death by his brother, Roger "Buddy" Dale Hearn; his parents; and his granddaughter, April Neilson. Visitation will be at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25. Mitch will be buried at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26. Reverend Frank Jordan will officiate the service. The family gratefully accepts flowers. Prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at www,basscares.com. Donations may be made to New Life Christian Assembly.
